Specifications
What It Does & Compatibility
The OontZ Bluetooth Adapter 2nd Gen transmits audio from your TV or device (laptop, computer, tablet, Mac, iPad, or music receiver) to 1, 2, 3, or 4 OontZ speakers over Bluetooth. Its Low Latency Feature reduces transmission delays that can cause lip-sync issues when watching video.
Supported OontZ speaker models:
- OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA (4th Gen)
- OontZ Angle 3 Pro (2nd Gen)
The 2nd Gen adapter does NOT work with previous generations of OontZ speakers. For the latest list, visit TheOontZ.com/BT-Adapter-2nd-Gen.

Connecting Your Audio Source
Connect to your TV using the Digital Audio Optical cable (recommended): plug the longer end into the adapter's Optical/Audio In connector and the shorter end into the Optical Digital Audio Out on your TV. Make sure both ends are fully inserted.
If your TV has no optical output, use the 3.5mm audio cable from the adapter's Optical/Audio In connector to the TV's Headphone or Audio-Out connector. If the TV only has Left/Right analog (RCA) outputs, a 3.5mm to RCA cable is needed (sold separately at TheOontZ.com/accessories).
To connect other devices, plug the 3.5mm cable from the adapter's Optical/Audio In connector into the device's Headphone or Audio-Out connector.
Turning On the Adapter
- Step 1: Plug the Micro USB power adapter into a power outlet.
- Step 2: Insert the small end of the Micro USB adapter into the adapter's DC IN connector.
- Step 3: The Analog light is solid green when connected via 3.5mm cable, or the Optical light is solid white when connected via the Digital Audio Optical cable. If no cable is connected, the Mute light slowly flashes red.
Pairing Speakers in Surround Mode
You can connect 1, 2, 3, or 4 supported speakers, playing up to 66 feet apart. The adapter acts as the Master and the speakers as Slaves.
- Plug in and turn on the adapter, then turn on the supported OontZ speaker(s).
- Each Slave Speaker must not be connected to any device; its Bluetooth light must be flashing. If a speaker shows a solid blue light, press and hold its Bluetooth Button for 3 seconds until the light flashes.
- On the adapter, press and release the Surround Button; the Surround light lights solid orange.
- On each speaker with a flashing blue light, press and release the Bluetooth Button. The speaker's light flashes orange and it says 'Surround Mode Receive'.
- After a few seconds each speaker connects, shown by a solid orange light.
The adapter must be within 10 unobstructed feet of the speakers to pair. You can also use the OontZ app to connect speakers.
Turning Speakers On/Off & Disconnecting
Turning the adapter off does NOT turn off the speakers. Turning a Slave Speaker off only turns that speaker off; the others keep playing. To turn speakers back on, power them all on and repeat the pairing process.
To disconnect a single Slave Speaker, press and release its Bluetooth Button; the other speakers stay connected. To disconnect all speakers, turn off the adapter or press and release the adapter's Surround Button.
If Slave Speakers are disconnected via the Surround Button (and not turned off), they automatically reconnect when the Surround Button is pressed and released again. If a Slave Speaker was turned off, press and release its Bluetooth Button to re-enter Surround Mode. To pair a speaker with a flashing orange light to another device, press and release its Bluetooth Button so the light flashes blue.
Using the OontZ Remote
First remove the insulation strip on the back of the remote, then pair it with the adapter:
- Plug in and turn on the adapter.
- Press and hold the adapter's Mute Button for more than two seconds; the four adapter lights flash together, indicating it is ready to pair.
- Hold the remote within 3 feet (1 meter) of the adapter and, at the same time, press and hold the remote's Bluetooth Button and Power Button for more than two seconds.
- When paired, the adapter's Analog light flashes green six times.
Remote functions: Volume Up/Down (press or hold to change the connected speakers' volume), Mute/Unmute (press to toggle), Surround Mode (press to connect supported speakers), and Power (turn the adapter on and off). Some remote buttons are designed for the OontZ Angle 3 Pro Soundbar and have no function with this adapter.
To verify pairing, press and hold the remote's Bluetooth and Power buttons for more than two seconds; the adapter's Analog light flashes green six times if they are paired.
Using the OontZ App
Download the OontZ app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (search 'Oontz'). The app provides Volume Control, Surround Mode management (connect, disconnect, and manage 1-4 speakers), Support (online manual, firmware update, and contact), and Speaker selection.
To enable the app: plug in and turn on the adapter, launch the app, open the Menu, select 'Speakers', and press the grey speaker icon to enable the app with the adapter. The icon turns blue when ready.
For Surround Mode in the app, open the Menu and select 'Surround Mode'. The adapter is the Master and is selected automatically the first time (its box turns blue and the Surround light lights solid orange). Press the 'Slave Speaker' button to list available speakers, then select the grey boxes of the speakers you want to connect; their boxes turn blue, their lights flash then turn solid orange, and they announce 'Surround Mode Receive'.
To disconnect in the app, press 'Slave Speaker' and select a speaker to exit Surround Mode (its box turns grey), or press 'Master Speaker' and select the adapter's blue box to disconnect all speakers. The firmware update via the app may take up to 30 minutes; do not interrupt it with a phone call.
Resetting the Adapter
Turn the adapter on, then press and hold the Bluetooth/Surround control as directed to reset it, and re-pair your speakers following the Surround Mode instructions. For the latest reset and troubleshooting guidance, visit TheOontZ.com/troubleshooting and select the OontZ Bluetooth Adapter (2nd Gen).
Other Important Notes
When OontZ speakers run on battery power while connected to the adapter, they stay on and will not automatically turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity, which drains the battery. OontZ recommends either keeping each speaker plugged into a USB wall charger so it stays charged and available, or turning each speaker off when finished. When the adapter is on and the speakers are turned back on, the adapter automatically reconnects to each speaker within range.
Safety & Precautions
- When the adapter is plugged in to a power source, never use it near water to prevent the risk of electric shock.
- Protect the Micro USB power adapter from being pinched, particularly at the connectors.
- Unplug the power adapter during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
- Keep the adapter away from heat sources and naked flames, and do not expose it to excessive heat or direct sunlight.
- Do not make alterations to the adapter, and refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
- Use only the supplied Micro USB power adapter, which meets local regulatory requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which OontZ speakers work with the 2nd Gen adapter?
Only the OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA (4th Gen) and OontZ Angle 3 Pro (2nd Gen). It does not work with previous-generation OontZ speakers. For the latest list, visit TheOontZ.com/BT-Adapter-2nd-Gen.
How many speakers can I connect?
Up to four supported speakers at once in Surround Mode, playing up to 66 feet apart from the adapter.
How do I pair the included remote?
Remove the insulation strip, turn on the adapter, and press and hold the adapter's Mute Button for over two seconds until all four lights flash. Then hold the remote within 3 feet and press its Bluetooth and Power buttons together for over two seconds; the Analog light flashes green six times when paired.
Does turning off the adapter turn off my speakers?
No. Turning off the adapter does not power off the speakers; it disconnects them. Turn each speaker off separately when you are finished.
What does a flashing red Mute light mean?
It means the adapter is turned on but not connected to an audio source. Connect the 3.5mm or Digital Audio Optical cable; the Analog (green) or Optical (white) light will then be lit.
There is no audio from my speaker after connecting. What should I check?
Confirm the audio cable is fully inserted, the volume is audible on both the speaker and source, and the device's line-out/headphone-out or Digital Audio out is enabled. Some TVs require selecting an external speaker as the audio output.
I hear a buzzing sound over the optical connection. What causes it?
Set your TV's audio format to PCM out rather than encoded audio such as Dolby Digital, usually found in the TV's audio settings.
Can I control the adapter from my phone?
Yes. Download the OontZ app from the App Store or Google Play to control volume, manage Surround Mode for up to four speakers, update firmware, and contact support.
