Important: The volume control on your device and the speaker work independently. For the loudest volume, set both to maximum.
Important: Some apps may not support track back, track forward, or play/pause.
Lights
Red Light (when charging):
- Slowly flashing red: battery is charging
- Solid red: battery is fully charged
Blue Light (when the speaker is on):
- Flashing blue: ready to pair and connect
- Solid blue: connected and ready to play
- Solid green: a 3.5mm audio cable is plugged into the AUX IN jack
White Light: lit when the speaker is in OontZ Wireless Dual Stereo.
Connectors
Connectors are on the back of the speaker behind a connector flap:
- Charging jack: connects the dual-voltage power adapter.
- AUX IN jack: for the 3.5mm audio cable.
- USB Power Bank (5V/1A): keeps a smartphone or iPhone charged while playing.
- OontZ Wireless Dual Stereo switch: selects Left/Right channel or Dual Stereo mode.
To open the flap, pull gently from the top (a snug fit for water resistance); to close, raise it into position and press gently to seal. The connector flap must be closed to keep the speaker water resistant.
Turning On & Off
- To turn on: press and release the Power button. The red light turns on for 1 second, then the blue light turns on.
- To turn off: press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds. The blue light turns off (it stays lit if the power adapter is plugged in).
Flashing blue means pairing mode; solid blue means a device has connected and it is ready to play.
Pairing & Connecting
Turn on the speaker so the blue light is flashing. Your device must be within 100 unobstructed feet. If the charge is too low (flashing red), the device cannot connect until you plug in the power adapter to charge.
On an iPhone, iPad, iPod, smartphone, or tablet: go to Settings > Bluetooth, confirm Bluetooth is on, and select 'OontZ_Angle 3XL Uxxx' (xxx is 3 characters unique to your speaker). The light turns solid blue with a quiet chime when connected.
The speaker connects to one device at a time and auto-reconnects to the last device when turned on and in range (Amazon Echo devices will not auto-reconnect).
- To switch devices, disconnect the current one by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds until the blue light flashes.
For Apple Mac or Windows computer pairing, visit TheOontZ.com/pairing.
Amazon Echo / Echo Dot: pair the first time via the Alexa app (Home > Settings > select your Echo > Bluetooth > select 'OontZ_Angle 3XL Uxxx'). Next time, turn on the speaker and say 'Alexa, connect my speaker' or 'Alexa, pair'.
Battery & Charging
The rechargeable battery comes partially charged and is ready to play; fully charge it for maximum playtime. You can play while charging. The battery is replaceable, sold separately at TheOontZ.com.
- Plug the connector end of the power adapter into the charging jack.
- Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet.
- Charging takes up to 4 hours for a low battery.
Low charge: when below 15% remaining, the red light flashes rapidly and the volume decreases to preserve charge.
Power Saving: on battery power the speaker turns off after 30 minutes of no audio. With the power adapter connected and plugged in, it stays on until you power it off. Exception: when connected to certain devices including the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot, the power-saving feature is disabled.
Water Resistance (IPX5)
The OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA is IPX5 water resistant. It can resist gentle water spray and splash but cannot be partially or fully submerged or left in a wet environment for an extended period, any of which could cause unrepairable damage.
- Gentle water spray or splash is okay.
- Do not allow the speaker to sit in water.
- Do not allow the speaker to submerge fully or partially in water.
The connector flap must be closed to keep the speaker water resistant and dustproof. When charging or using the 3.5mm cable, keep the speaker away from water.
Safety: When the power adapter is connected and plugged into a wall outlet, do not use the speaker in the shower, bath, rain, or near water. Always unplug the adapter from the speaker and outlet before the speaker is exposed to water or rain.
OontZ Wireless Dual Stereo
With a second OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA (sold separately) you can play music wirelessly through both speakers up to 100 feet apart. Walls, obstructions, or placing speakers on the ground significantly reduce the distance.
Set the Dual Stereo switch on both speakers first:
- Slide the switch to the left for Left Channel - Right Channel (stereo separation when both speakers are in the same area).
- Slide the switch to the right for Dual Stereo (both speakers play full stereo, for separate areas). You can slide the switch on both speakers even while playing to switch modes.
To connect the two speakers:
- Turn on both speakers.
- Pair and connect one speaker to your device (solid blue light); this is the Play Control Speaker.
- Ensure the second speaker is flashing blue (not connected); if it has a solid blue light, hold its Bluetooth button for 3 seconds to disconnect.
- On the Play Control Speaker, press and hold Play/Pause for 5 seconds until a flashing white light appears and it says 'Dual Pairing'. It then connects to the second speaker.
- With switches set to Left/Right, the speakers announce 'Left Channel' and 'Right Channel'; with switches set to Dual Stereo, both say 'Dual Stereo'.
The Play Control Speaker handles all play controls, Bluetooth/AUX IN connections, and speakerphone audio; these are disabled on the second speaker while paired.
Turning off the Play Control Speaker turns both off; turning off the second speaker first leaves the Play Control Speaker playing as a single speaker.
To disconnect the two speakers: with both on, press and hold Play/Pause on the Play Control Speaker for 5 seconds; the white lights turn off.
To play video audio in Dual Stereo, connect the Play Control Speaker to your device or TV with the 3.5mm cable so audio and video stay in sync; Bluetooth introduces a delay.
Playing Non-Bluetooth Devices (3.5mm AUX)
- Plug one end of the 3.5mm audio cable into the AUX IN jack; the blue light turns solid green and the speaker says 'AUX IN Source'.
- Plug the other end into your device's headphone jack.
- Make sure both ends are fully inserted.
Important: Bluetooth is disabled while the 3.5mm cable is connected; remove the cable to connect to a Bluetooth device. When the flap is open for the cable, the speaker is not water resistant.
Wireless Hands Free Speakerphone
Hands-free calling works over Bluetooth with smartphones and iPhones only; it is not supported on other device types.
- To answer or end a call: press and release the Bluetooth button.
- To reject an incoming call: press and hold the Bluetooth button for 2 seconds.
Keep the speaker close in front of you so you can be heard clearly. You can use your phone to switch between the speakerphone and the handset.
When two speakers are paired in Dual Stereo, calls come through the Play Control Speaker only.
Reset Function
Reset the speaker by disconnecting and reconnecting the replaceable battery:
- Step 1 (important): Turn off the speaker and unplug the power adapter. Also remove the 3.5mm audio cable if plugged in.
- Step 2: Unscrew the battery cover on the bottom using a flathead screwdriver, then lift it off.
- Step 3: Gently pull the battery cables up until you see the black plastic connector clamp. Press down on the clamp and gently pull the two cable ends apart.
- Step 4: Wait 15 seconds, then reconnect the two cable ends until the clip locks them together.
- Step 5: Replace and screw in the battery cover. The speaker is reset and can be turned on.
Safety & Precautions
- When the power adapter is connected and plugged in, never use the speaker in the shower, bath, rain, or near water. Always unplug the adapter before the speaker is exposed to water.
- Protect the power adapter cord from being pinched, especially at the connectors, and unplug it during lightning storms or long periods of disuse.
- Unplug the power adapter before opening the replaceable battery cover.
- Keep the speaker away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves, and amplifiers, and out of direct sunlight or fire.
- Do not place near naked flames such as lighted candles.
- Only use the official OontZ Angle 3XL ULTRA replacement battery. If the battery leaks, avoid skin/eye contact and seek medical advice if exposed.
- Do not make unauthorized alterations; refer all servicing to qualified personnel and do not use the speaker if damaged.
- Use only an agency-approved power supply meeting local regulatory requirements (e.g., UL, CSA, VDE, CCC).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 3XL ULTRA waterproof?
No, it is IPX5 water resistant. It withstands gentle spray and splash but must not be submerged or left in a wet environment, as this can cause unrepairable damage. Keep the connector flap closed for water and dust resistance.
How long does the battery last and how long does it take to charge?
Up to 8 hours of playtime on a full charge at 2/3 volume, and up to 4 hours to fully charge a low battery. Louder volumes reduce playtime.
Can I replace the battery?
Yes. The 3XL ULTRA has a replaceable battery, available separately at TheOontZ.com. Use only the official replacement battery and unplug the power adapter before opening the battery cover.
How do I reset the speaker?
The reset is done by disconnecting the battery: turn it off and unplug all cables, unscrew the bottom battery cover, separate the battery connector, wait 15 seconds, reconnect it, and replace the cover.
How do I pair two 3XL ULTRA speakers together?
Set the Dual Stereo switch on both (left for Left/Right, right for Dual Stereo), turn both on, pair one to your device as the Play Control Speaker, ensure the second is flashing blue, then hold the Play Control Speaker's Play/Pause for 5 seconds until it says 'Dual Pairing'.
What is the difference between Left/Right Channel and Dual Stereo modes?
Left Channel - Right Channel gives stereo separation when both speakers are in the same area; Dual Stereo has both speakers play full stereo so you can place them in separate areas. Switch between them with the Dual Stereo switch, even while playing.
Can I charge my phone from the speaker?
Yes. The 3XL ULTRA has a USB Power Bank output (5V/1A) on the back to keep a smartphone or iPhone charged while playing.
Why won't my device connect over Bluetooth?
Make sure the speaker is flashing blue, within 100 unobstructed feet, and charged. A flashing red light means the charge is too low; plug in the power adapter. To switch devices, hold the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds to disconnect the current one first.
Can I use a wired audio source?
Yes. Plug the included 3.5mm audio cable into the AUX IN jack (the light turns green and it says 'AUX IN Source') and into your device. Bluetooth is disabled while the cable is connected.
