The box includes the following items:

  • OontZ Clip speaker
  • USB Type-C charging cable
  • Carabiner
  • Resistant strap
  • Quick-Start Guide

Note: The USB Type-C charging cable is packed below the cardboard insert at the end of the triangle box. Slide out the insert to locate the cable.

Important: The carabiner is not for climbing.

Carabiner & Resistant Strap

The OontZ Clip comes with an easy-to-use, tear-resistant silicone strap. Secure it to a backpack, beach cooler, or handlebars, and the strap holds tight through shocks and shakes.

Tip: Suited for bike handlebars; not recommended for use on items exceeding that size.

The carabiner is not for climbing.

Play Horizontally or Vertically

The OontZ Clip can play in either orientation:

  • Horizontally: controls are on the side.
  • Vertically: controls are on top.

Buttons & Controls

  • Power: press and hold to turn on/off.
  • Bluetooth / Play/Pause / Speakerphone / Dual Speaker (multi-function): press and release to pause or play.
  • Volume Up (dual function): press and release to increase volume one level; holding the button down results in track forward.
  • Volume Down (dual function): press and release to decrease volume one level; holding the button down results in track back.

Important: Set the volume high on your audio source device; both the Clip and your source must be at the highest level for the loudest volume. The two volume controls work independently.

Important: Track back is application-dependent; some apps may not support track back, track forward, or play/pause.

Lights

Blue Light (when the speaker is on):

  • Flashing blue: in pairing mode
  • Solid blue: connected

Red Light (when charging):

  • Slowly flashing red: battery is charging
  • Solid red: battery is fully charged

White/Blue Light: lit when the speaker is the second speaker connected in OontZ Dual Speaker.

Connectors & Built-in Mic

  • USB Type-C charging connector.
  • Built-in mic for speakerphone.

Note: An alarm will sound when charging if water is left on the Type-C socket.

Turning On & Off

  • To turn on: press and hold the Power button for 1 second. The red light turns on (it turns off after 3 seconds if playing from battery power) and the blue light turns on.
  • To turn off: press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds. The blue light turns off.

Flashing blue means the speaker is on and in pairing mode; solid blue means it has connected to an audio source and is ready to play.

Pairing & Connecting

Turn on the Clip so the blue light is flashing. Make sure it has sufficient charge (it cannot connect when too low) and your device is within 100 unobstructed feet.

On an iPhone, iPad, iPod, smartphone, or tablet: go to Settings > Bluetooth, confirm Bluetooth is on, and select 'OontZ Clip xxx' (xxx is 3 characters unique to your speaker). The light turns solid blue with a quiet chime when connected.

The Clip connects to one device at a time and auto-reconnects to the last device when turned on and in range (Amazon Echo devices will not auto-reconnect).

  • To switch devices, disconnect the current one by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds until the blue light flashes.

For Apple Mac or Windows computer pairing, visit TheOontZ.com/pairing.

Amazon Echo: pair the first time via the Alexa app (Devices > Echo & Alexa > select your Echo > Bluetooth Devices > Pair A New Device > select 'OontZ Clip DS xxx'); the Clip dings when connected. Next time, turn on the Clip and say 'Alexa, connect my speaker' or 'Alexa, pair'.

Battery & Charging

The rechargeable battery comes partially charged and is ready to play; fully charge it for maximum playtime. You can play while charging.

  • Insert the small end of the USB Type-C cable into the charging connector.
  • Insert the larger end into a UL-Listed USB wall charger (5V 1.0A max) or a computer USB port.
  • Charging takes up to 3 hours for a low battery.

Low charge: when below 15% remaining, the red light flashes rapidly and the volume decreases to preserve charge.

Power Saving: on battery power the Clip turns off after 15 minutes of no audio. When plugged into a charging source it stays on until you power it off.

Note: When charging, a 'dododo' alarm sound means water is left on the Type-C socket; remove the water with a tissue and re-charge.

Waterproofing (IPX7)

The OontZ Clip is waterproof and IPX7 certified. It handles water spray and splashing and can be partially or fully submerged up to a maximum of 3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes. It is perfect for the lake, beach, pool, and shower.

An alarm sounds if water is left on the USB Type-C socket when charging; dry it before charging.

Safety: When plugged in to a charging source with the USB Type-C cable, never use the speaker in the shower, bath, or near water to prevent electric shock.

Wireless Hands Free Speakerphone

The built-in mic enables hands-free calling over Bluetooth with smartphones and iPhones only; it is not supported on PCs, laptops, Apple Mac, or other device types.

  • To answer or end a call: press and release the Bluetooth button.
  • To reject an incoming call: press and hold the Bluetooth button for 2 seconds.

Keep the speaker close in front of you so you can be heard clearly. You can use your phone to switch between the speakerphone and the handset.

OontZ Dual Speaker (Two Clips Together)

With a second OontZ Clip (sold separately) you can play music wirelessly through both speakers up to 66 feet apart. Walls, obstructions, or placing speakers on the ground significantly reduce the distance.

To connect for Left Channel - Right Channel:

  • Turn on both Clip speakers.
  • Pair and connect one to your device (solid blue light); this is the Play Control Speaker.
  • Ensure the second speaker is flashing blue (not connected); if it has a solid blue light, hold its Dual Speaker button for 3 seconds to disconnect.
  • On the Play Control Speaker, press and hold the Dual Speaker button for 3 seconds until it says 'Dual Pairing'.
  • After a few seconds the Play Control Speaker says 'Left Channel' (remains solid blue) and the second says 'Right Channel' (turns solid white); you are ready to play.

The Play Control Speaker handles all play controls, Bluetooth connection, and speakerphone audio; these are disabled on the second speaker while paired.

Turning off the Play Control Speaker turns both off; turning off the second speaker first leaves the Play Control Speaker playing as a single speaker.

To disconnect the two speakers: with both on, press the Play/Pause button twice on the Play Control Speaker; the second speaker's white light turns off.

Note: Playing video audio in OontZ Dual Speaker is not recommended because the playback delay causes audio and video to be out of sync.

Resetting Your OontZ Clip

  • Step 1: Remove the USB Type-C charging cable if connected.
  • Step 2: Press and hold the Power button and the Bluetooth/multi-function button together for 1 second, then release.
  • Step 3: The speaker is reset and you can turn it on.

Safety & Precautions

  • When plugged in to a charging source, never use the speaker in the shower, bath, or near water to prevent electric shock.
  • Protect the USB Type-C cable from being pinched, especially at the connectors, and unplug it during lightning storms or long periods of disuse.
  • Keep the speaker away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves, and amplifiers, and out of direct sunlight or fire.
  • Do not place near naked flames such as lighted candles.
  • The battery is not replaceable; do not attempt to change it. If the battery leaks, avoid skin/eye contact and seek medical advice if exposed.
  • Do not make alterations to the speaker; refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Use only an agency-approved power supply meeting local regulatory requirements (e.g., UL, CSA, VDE, CCC).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I submerge the OontZ Clip in water?

Yes. Being IPX7 certified, it can be partially or fully submerged up to a maximum of 3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes, and handles spray and splashes. Never use it near water while it is plugged in for charging.

Why does the speaker make an alarm sound when I charge it?

A 'dododo' alarm during charging means water is left on the USB Type-C socket. Dry the socket with a tissue and then charge again.

How long does the battery last and how long does it take to charge?

Up to 12 hours of playtime on a full charge at 2/3 volume, and up to 3 hours to fully charge a low battery. Louder volumes reduce playtime.

Why does my Clip turn off on its own?

On battery power it automatically turns off after 15 minutes of not playing audio to conserve charge. When plugged into a charging source it stays on until you power it off.

Can I play the speaker in different positions?

Yes. The Clip plays horizontally (controls on the side) or vertically (controls on top).

How do I pair two OontZ Clip speakers together?

Turn on both, pair one to your device as the Play Control Speaker, make sure the second is flashing blue, then hold the Dual Speaker button on the Play Control Speaker for 3 seconds until it says 'Dual Pairing'. They split into Left (blue) and Right (white) channels.

How do I disconnect two paired Clip speakers?

With both speakers on, press the Play/Pause button twice on the Play Control Speaker. The white light on the second speaker turns off and they disconnect.

How do I reset my OontZ Clip?

Remove the USB Type-C cable, then press and hold the Power button and the Bluetooth/multi-function button together for 1 second and release. The speaker is reset and can be turned on.

Can I use the speaker for phone calls?

Yes, over Bluetooth with smartphones and iPhones only (not PCs, laptops, or Mac). Press and release the Bluetooth button to answer or end a call, or hold it 2 seconds to reject an incoming call.
