Lights
Red Light (when charging):
- Slowly flashing red: battery is charging
- Solid red: battery is fully charged
- Rapidly flashing red while playing: battery charge is low
Blue Light (when the speaker is on):
- Flashing blue: in Bluetooth pairing mode
- Solid blue: connected
- Solid green: a 3.5mm audio cable is plugged into the AUX IN jack
White/Orange Light: lit when the speaker is in OontZ Wireless Dual Stereo.
Turning On & Off
- To turn on: press and release the Power button. The red light turns on for 3 seconds, then the blue light turns on.
- To turn off: press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds. The blue light turns off.
Flashing blue means the speaker is in pairing mode; solid blue means a device has connected and it is ready to play.
Pairing & Connecting
Turn on the speaker so the blue light is flashing, indicating it is ready to pair. Your device must be within 100 unobstructed feet. If the charge is too low (flashing red light), the device will not be able to connect.
On an iPhone, iPad, iPod, smartphone, or tablet: go to Settings > Bluetooth, confirm Bluetooth is on, and select 'OontZ_Angle 3 RainDance xxx' (xxx is 3 characters unique to your speaker). The light turns solid blue with a quiet chime when connected.
The speaker connects to one device at a time and automatically reconnects to the last device when turned on and in range (some devices, including Amazon Echo, will not auto-reconnect).
- To switch devices, disconnect the current one by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button for 5 seconds until the blue light flashes again.
For Apple Mac or Windows computer pairing, visit TheOontZ.com/pairing.
Amazon Echo / Echo Dot: pair the first time via the Alexa app (Home > Settings > select your Echo device > Bluetooth > select 'OontZ_Angle 3 RainDance xxx'). Next time, turn on the speaker and say 'Alexa, connect my speaker' or 'Alexa, pair'.
Battery & Charging
The rechargeable battery comes partially charged and is ready to play; fully charge it for maximum playtime. You can play while charging.
- Insert the small end of the Micro USB cable into the charging connector.
- Insert the larger end into a UL-Listed USB wall charger (5V 1.0A up to 5V 2.4A max) or a computer USB port.
- Charging takes up to 5 hours for a low battery.
Low charge: when below 15% remaining, the red light flashes rapidly and the volume decreases to preserve charge.
Power Saving: on battery power the speaker turns off after 30 minutes of no audio. When plugged into a charging source it stays on until you power it off. Exception: when connected to certain devices including the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot, the power-saving feature is disabled.
Waterproofing (IPX7)
The OontZ Angle 3 RainDance is waterproof and IPX7 certified. It handles shower spray and splashing and can be partially or fully submerged up to a maximum of 3 feet deep for up to 30 minutes.
Important: The rubber flap covering the connectors must be closed before the speaker is exposed to water. The speaker is not water-resistant when the flap is open. Pull the flap gently from the top to access the connectors; it is a snug fit as part of the waterproofing.
Do not place the speaker in water deeper than 36 inches or leave it submerged longer than 30 minutes, and do not keep it in a wet environment for an extended period.
Safety: When plugged in to a charging source with the Micro USB cable, never use the speaker in the shower, bath, or near water to prevent electric shock.
OontZ Wireless Dual Stereo
With a second OontZ Angle 3 RainDance (sold separately) you can play music wirelessly through both speakers up to 100 feet apart. Placing speakers on the ground or having walls/obstructions between them significantly reduces the distance.
To connect for Left Channel - Right Channel:
- Turn on both speakers.
- Pair and connect one speaker to your device (solid blue light); this is the Play Control Speaker.
- Ensure the second speaker is not connected to any device (blue light flashing); if it is connected, hold its Bluetooth button for 5 seconds to disconnect.
- On the Play Control Speaker, press and hold the Play/Pause button for 5 seconds until a flashing white light appears and it says 'Dual Pairing'.
- The Play Control Speaker says 'Left Channel' and the second says 'Right Channel'; you are ready to play.
Switching to Dual Stereo (full stereo in separate areas): with the speakers connected for Left/Right, press and hold the Track Forward button on the Play Control Speaker for 5 seconds until the white lights turn solid orange and both say 'Dual Stereo'.
Changing back: press and hold Track Forward on the Play Control Speaker for 5 seconds until the orange lights turn solid white again.
The Play Control Speaker handles all play controls, Bluetooth/AUX IN connections, and speakerphone audio; these are disabled on the second speaker while paired.
Turning off the Play Control Speaker turns both off; turning off the second speaker first leaves the Play Control Speaker playing as a single speaker.
To disconnect the two speakers: with both on, press and hold Play/Pause on the Play Control Speaker for 5 seconds; the white lights turn off.
To play video audio in Dual Stereo, connect the Play Control Speaker to your device or TV with a 3.5mm audio cable to keep audio and video in sync; Bluetooth introduces a playback delay.
Talk to Siri
This feature works when connected to an iPhone or iPad over Bluetooth, running the latest version of iOS.
- Press and release the Bluetooth button on the speaker.
- The blue light turns green and flashes 3 times.
- Wait about two seconds until you hear a chime, then speak your request into the mic.
- Siri's response plays through the speaker and may display information on your iPhone or iPad.
Wireless Hands Free Speakerphone
The built-in mic enables hands-free calling over Bluetooth with smartphones and iPhones only; it is not supported on other device types.
- To answer or end a call: press and release the Bluetooth button.
- To reject an incoming call: press and hold the Bluetooth button for 3 seconds.
Keep the speaker close in front of you so you can be heard clearly. You can use your phone to switch between the speakerphone and the handset.
When two speakers are paired in Dual Stereo, calls come through the Play Control Speaker only.
Playing Non-Bluetooth Devices (3.5mm AUX)
- Plug one end of a 3.5mm stereo audio cable into the AUX IN jack; the blue light turns solid green.
- Plug the other end into the headphone jack on your device.
- Make sure both ends are fully inserted.
Important: Bluetooth is disabled while a 3.5mm cable is connected. Remove the cable to connect to a Bluetooth device. The 3.5mm cable is sold separately at TheOontZ.com/accessories.
Reset Function
- Step 1: Remove the Micro USB charging cable and 3.5mm audio cable, if connected.
- Step 2: Press and hold the Power button for 8 seconds, then release.
- Step 3: The speaker has been reset and you can turn it on.
Safety & Precautions
- When plugged in to a charging source, never use the speaker in the shower, bath, or near water to prevent electric shock.
- Protect the Micro USB cable from being pinched, especially at the connectors, and unplug it during lightning storms or long periods of disuse.
- Keep the speaker away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves, and amplifiers, and out of direct sunlight or fire.
- Do not place near naked flames such as lighted candles.
- The battery is not replaceable; do not attempt to change it. If the battery leaks, avoid skin/eye contact and seek medical advice if exposed.
- Do not make alterations to the speaker; refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
- Use only an agency-approved power supply meeting local regulatory requirements (e.g., UL, CSA, VDE, CCC).
Frequently Asked Questions
How deep and how long can I submerge the RainDance?
Being IPX7 certified, it can be partially or fully submerged up to a maximum of 3 feet (36 inches) deep for up to 30 minutes. Always close the rubber flap first; the speaker is not water-resistant when the flap is open.
Why isn't my device connecting to the speaker?
Make sure the speaker is on with a flashing blue light, within 100 unobstructed feet, and sufficiently charged. A flashing red light means the charge is too low to connect, so charge the speaker. Moving your device closer can also help.
How do I connect a different phone when one is already paired?
The speaker connects to one device at a time. Press and hold the Bluetooth button for 5 seconds to disconnect the current device; once the blue light flashes, pair the new device.
How long does the battery last and how long does it take to charge?
Up to 12 hours of playtime on a full charge at 2/3 volume, and up to 5 hours to fully charge a low battery. Louder volumes reduce playtime.
Why did my speaker turn off by itself?
On battery power it automatically turns off after 30 minutes of not playing audio to conserve charge. When plugged into a charging source it stays on until you power it off (the auto-off is also disabled when connected to Amazon Echo devices).
How do I pair two RainDance speakers together?
Turn on both, pair one to your device (it becomes the Play Control Speaker), make sure the second is flashing blue (disconnected), then hold the Play Control Speaker's Play/Pause button for 5 seconds until it says 'Dual Pairing'. They split into Left and Right channels automatically.
How do I use Siri through the speaker?
Connected to an iPhone or iPad over Bluetooth with the latest iOS, press and release the Bluetooth button; the light flashes green 3 times, then after a chime speak your request into the mic.
Can I use the speaker with a non-Bluetooth source?
Yes. Plug a 3.5mm stereo audio cable into the AUX IN jack (light turns green) and into your device's headphone jack. Note that Bluetooth is disabled while the cable is connected.
How do I reset the speaker?
Remove any charging and audio cables, then press and hold the Power button for 8 seconds and release. The speaker is reset and can be turned back on.
